The Callisto Protocol is developed by Striking Distance Studios, a team founded within PUBG Corporation by Glen Schofield and Steve Papoutsis, formerly executives at Visceral Games. It is considered to be a sort of spiritual successor to Dead Space (which, incidentally, is getting its remake in early 2023). Originally, the survival horror game was supposed to take place in the future of the PUBG universe, but that plan was nixed a while ago....

Well, a fresh peek at a number of favorite The Last of Us characters has now been provided via a series of promo images. These images include a first good look at Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Lamar Johnson as Henry, and Keivonn Woodward as Sam. We also get another look at Anna Torv as Tess, Merle Dandridge as Marlene, Nico Parker as Sarah, and more. Interestingly, Frank also gets a poster, implying his role has been expanded (he was only briefly seen – mostly as a corpse – in the game)....

Engineer Michael Pick recently built the world’s largest Series X console and detailed the process that went into the massive console’s building in a new video. The console is 600% larger than the original, is over 2 meters tall and 1 meter wide, and weighs around 113 kilograms. Interestingly, the huge custom-made console is fully functional, as it contains an actual Xbox Series X inside as well as an Arduino unit that makes the huge buttons on the console actually turn it on....

The Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is asking its customers to reduce payment times according to reports in the Taiwanese media. The change comes as the fab continues to expand its chip manufacturing facilities in Taiwan and globally. TSMC is currently shifting gears to mass produce semiconductors on the advanced 3-nanometer (nm) manufacturing process, and at the same time, it is building a new facility in the United States and progressing towards next generation plants to manufacture technologies such as 2nm....

Unfortunately, the PC port of Uncharted 4 within the Legacy of Thieves Collection doesn’t support ray tracing, but artist ‘Digital Dreams’ has now released a new video showing off Naughty Dog’s PC port complete with his own custom version of Pascal Glitcher’s RTGI preset which adds global illumination to the title. The video has the game running in 8K resolution at 60 frames per second with Otis_Inf’s new camera mod for the Legacy of Thieves collection....

As reported by The Verge, the update is currently available to insiders, and will soon become available for all Xbox Series owners. According to Microsoft’s Xbox Integrated Marketing director, Josh Munsee, the team has created a shorter boot-up animation in the Energy Saving mode to reduce overall startup time. As part of the ongoing tussle at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) about Space Exploration Technologies Corporation’s (SpaceX) Starlink small satellite low Earth orbit constellation, satellite internet provider Viasat has argued that statements made by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) merit the FCC opening an environmental review for SpaceX’s satellite service. Starlink and Viasat are currently at odds over whether the Commission should approve the former’s request to allow SpaceX to use its new rocket currently under development at the company’s facilities in Boca Chica, Texas to launch the spacecraft, and Viasat has taken this opportunity to raise concerns about the internet constellation’s impacts on the night sky through light pollution....

July is a bit of an off month for the big publishers, with a pair of Switch JRPGs, Live A Live and Xenoblade Chronicles 3, being the main headliners. That said, it’s a busy month for smaller developers, with a number of anticipated indies including the cyberpunk kitty adventure Stray, Sam Barlow mind-bender Immortality, and intense roguelike hack ‘n’ slash Loopmancer on the way. The United Launch Alliance’s Delta IV Heavy rocket took to the skies from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in the evening Eastern Time yesterday. The Delta IV Heavy is ULA’s heavy lift launch vehicle, which is America’s only rocket that has been rated at delivering payloads greater than 20 tons to low Earth orbit (LEO). As part of its complex launch sequence, the rocket’s base sets itself on fire moments before liftoff, and the rocket has been in service since 2004 with a successful launch cadence of 14 launches and only a partial failure on the first launch....

As spotted by VGC, the ad has a white version of Microsoft’s Xbox Series X on display right next to a PlayStation 5. Since Microsoft has only released its console in black (aside from limited and special editions), this could be interesting as a white Xbox Series X hasn’t been announced just yet. It’s possible that this white edition was solely created for Logitech’s ad, but as most Xbox fans will know, Microsoft has a history of releasing its consoles in both white and black versions....
